If you aren’t already acquainted… let me introduce you to Studio Ghibli… a Japanese animation and film studio founded in June 1985; and also a BIG passion in my life (other than the wonderful marvellous world of beaut-e of course)!
The studio was founded after the success of the 1984 film “Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind”, written and directed by the inspirational Hayao Miyazaki.
What’s my favourite? Well I love them all for different reasons, and some more than others. The film I am most fond of is Spirited Away… the first Studio Ghibli film I was introduced to a few years ago. I went to the cinema knowing nothing about the film… and I have been a fan ever since! The characters are truly wonderful.
Many anime features created by Studio Ghibli have won the Animage Anime Grand Prix award including: Castle in the Sky in 1986; My Neighbor Totoro (see first image above) in 1988; and Kiki’s Delivery Service in 1989. In 2002, Spirited Away won a Golden Bear and an Oscar for Best Animated Feature which remains the only film made outside the English-speaking world to have done so.
