Another day, another wonderful new product to try, and another fabulously marvellous review (if I don’t mind saying so myself).
I am addicted to exfoliating… I admit it! Whether it be a lovely little new pot of something to clear the pores on my face or a humungously oversized pot of body scrubbing salt that you could probably pebble dash a house with… I’m there!
There are so many benefits for your skin… exfoliating should always be a part of your weekly beauty regime.
However… you MUST get it right or you can run the risk of over-doing it and skinning yourself alive (probably not possible, but you get my drift), and not doing it regularly enough with the right product for your skin to give you a consistent result.
So, get testing and try some different products. No need to do it every day… around 3 times a week will suffice if you can remember. Open your pores using luke warm water (not red hot, get the kettle on water – this does a lot of damage to your skin!). Gently massage your exfoliator in circular motions, wherever it is on your face or body.
Don’t scrub or rub… the product should be doing all the hard work. Put a little extra elbow grease (literally) with stubborn areas like your knees, ankles and elbows etc. If you suffer with sensitive skin, eczema, psoriasis… I would advise that you do as much research as possible into the ingredients of an exfoliator. Some people have different triggers than others, including SLS’s, parabens and artificial fragrances.
Rinse again with luke warm water… then finish with a splash of cooler water to close the pores (again, not cold like ice-cube in your orange juice cold – just chilly will do).
Of course… as with all new products, always do a small patch test and see how it goes for 24 hours. You might ‘pff’, but if you’ve ever had a reaction before (like I have), you will religiously do this!
OK, so less lecturing and more reviewing!
Zoë from Greenwood Organics very kindly sent me a little treasure pot in the post. What did it contain? Well, I was delighted to see that it was their Juniper & Papaya Facial Exfoliator! Lucky me indeed.
This product is ‘A refreshing cream exfoliator with fruit enzymes, AHA and Jojoba grains’. Ooohhh. The directions advise ‘Massage exfoliator slowly and gently over damp skin, rinse with warm water. Use once or twice a week’. See… I do know my stuff after all!
I haven’t been able to come up with a good enough description to describe the smell of this Facial Exfoliator… I have had a brain block. Although I would say that it’s a combination of the words fruity and creamy (no, I don’t mean inventing the words ‘freamy’ or ‘cruity’… just that it’s half fruity and half creamy).
It very much looks like a cream upon opening the pot, and even the consistency is very smooth. Usually you find that the ‘grains’ or ‘beads’ in an exfoliator are very prominent, but not with this one.
I put a small amount on my finger and started with the circular motions on my cheeks, chin, nose, then up to my forehead … to begin with I thought that maybe it was too creamy to do a good job at exfoliating, but then the magic began.
I think this is quite a deceptive product… I didn’t think it would do a better job than any other products I have tried on my sensitive skin, but it really did work very well for me.
I’ve tried not to over-use it since receiving it a couple of weeks ago, so I haven’t used even half of the pot yet… but I really love this product! You can feel the grains working lightly and when you rinse it off, I literally feel squeaky clean without looking red or irritated (which can so often be the case). I looked fresh-faced and my skin was calm, with a hint of the exfoliating tingle feel.
So… why not give it a try yourself? £20 for 50ml… I expect it will last a couple of months at least as long as you don’t use it every day! Free delivery on orders over £40 (UK only).

Elle, I love your blog and review and couldn’t agree more with your comments about Greenwood Organics Facial Exfoliator. I use it too and you’re right about the consistency, so creamy and yet does the job! I’ve recently started using more of the Greenwood Organics range and my skin is just loving it plus the smell sensation is so uplifting. Their Facial Oil is so gorgeous too. Zoe
